Vlog Inspired Rant

July 27th, 2010

While filming my vlog this morning, I kinda went off on a tangent about wireless carriers here in Canada.

My issue is with the “Big 3″ and their refusal to actually compete! They will swear up and down that they compete, and that there are a wide variety of carriers to choose from, but they are full of it!

The only carriers that actually compete here in Canada are the new guys Wind, Mobilicity and Public Mobile.

What really makes me angry is when carriers have information about a product that they know will be successful no matter what, but fail to inform customers about it to maintain a “competitive advantage” which just doesn’t make any damn sense!

I will probably have to update this post with more info once the iPhone 4 launches so I can show you just how ridiculous these statements from our carriers are.

Each one of them is so full of crap that they all stink!

As of posting Bell, Telus and Rogers have now posted on their respective websites that the iPhone 4 will be available but Fido has been left out of the batch sadly :(

I guess my point is that the “big 3″ wireless carriers here in Canada are all full of crap!

A New Leaf

July 26th, 2010

This morning I received a text message from Jenn (@JennJones) informing me that she no longer wants to smoke and that she will be making every effort in her power to quit.

Lose It!Those of you who have known me for some time know that I’ve been able to quit smoking on several different occasions, and to support Jenn I will be quitting as well.

Another thing that is factoring heavily into this decision is that Jenn hasn’t been feeling very well the last couple of days, and I think it is high time we start eating a lot more healthy and make it a point to go out and walk or run or do something active! This will be a huge change for Jenn and I as we are normally homebodies.

I am really looking forward to trying to loose some weight, and get healthier!

To track my progress and keep myself motivated, I downloaded an application for the iPhone called LoseIt! (LoseIt.com) This app helps you track what you put into your body, and what you do to burn it off.

The app will also send you reminders if you forget to log a meal, and will share your progress via Twitter, Facebook, or the built-in friends system.

I think the app is really handy, and it really shows me that I’ve been over eating. Not by a lot, but enough to merit a change.

This weekend Jenn and I are headed out to the Quebec side to take in some sun, some beers, some swimming, and some fun! Can’t wait!

Life in a Day

July 22nd, 2010

To anyone wondering what that little number beside the Youtube logo represents, it’s the number of days before you can start filming your footage for a project called Life in a Day.

Life in a Day is a huge collaboration spearheaded by Ridley Scott and Kevin Macdonald to create a feature film out of clips provided by everyday YouTubers. The idea is to submit footage from a day in your life, of which Kevin and Ridley will create a feature film.

So why should you submit footage?

Not only do you have the chance of having your footage used in a feature film, the 20 top contributors to the film will get an expenses paid trip to the Sundance Film Festival next year for the premiere of the film!

More information is available in the video below.

Netflix Canada Bound!

July 19th, 2010

Netflix ImageThis morning I woke up to some epic news!

Netflix tweeted that they will be coming to Canada in the fall!

This is absolutely fantastic news for movie buffs in Canada.

Assuming that the pricing in Canada is as competitive as it is in the US, I think Netflix will do very well in Canada.

I’m really excited for them to roll out all of the awesome services that Americans have known and loved for a long time now. I can’t wait to get streaming movies either on a mobile device, gaming console, or my i-Devices.

Very good news for Canadians this morning, and I’m stoked!
